Beryl is a monster hurricane. Then there are 2 other areas we’re watching

The WPTV First Alert Weather team on Monday is watching three separate systems, including a monster Hurricane Beryl that’s barreling toward the Windward Islands.

According to the National Hurricane Center, it’s a Category 3 storm with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph, moving west at 20 mph.

“It could become a Category 4 before actually crossing the Windward Islands as we head into the next few hours,” WPTV First Alert Weather meteorologist Steve Villanueva said.

By the middle of the week, Beryl is expected to interact with some wind shear and could weaken to a Category 2 storm before making a push toward Cancun and the Yucatan Peninsula.

Beryl will not impact South Florida.

Behind Beryl, there’s another wave that could become Tropical Storm Debby by mid-week.

“Computer models in very good agreement, taking it on the same exact track as Beryl,” Villanueva said. “Across the Windward Islands, and then eventually into the central Caribbean close to Jamaica.”

Finally, Tropical Storm Chris is moving into Mexico. It will dissipate quickly, but will produce flooding rains there.
