A driver died Thursday night after Stuart police said that person took from a traffic stop and led an officer on a pursuit.
In a news release to WPTV, Lt. David Duran, the public information officer for the Stuart Police Department, said an officer tried to pull a driver over at approximately 7:45 p.m.
“The vehicles driver fled, and a vehicle pursuit ensued, which resulted in a traffic fatality,” Duran said.
The Florida Highway Patrol is handling the crash investigation, and Duran said the Stuart Police Department “cannot and will not comment on their investigation.”
No other information, including the location of the incident or why the driver was being pulled over in the first place, have been released.
